Headteacher Competences within an Educational Institution

Most kindergartens in the Czech Republic are managed by a headmaster/ headmistress and their deputies (depending on the size of the kindergarten). There are also some kindergartens which fall within the management of a primary, or even a secondary school in the particular municipality, and the function of a headmaster/ headmistress is performed by the primary/ secondary school principal. If that is the case, the kindergarten headteacher position is introduced, who is not a deputy but is in charge of the kindergarten and responsible to the principal. This thesis examines the competencies of a kindergarten headteacher as an educational institution leader. The aim of the thesis is to research kindergarten headteachers' job competencies and job description in South-Bohemia Region (Jihočeský kraj). In the theoretical section, the thesis focuses on a headteacher's position, what professional requirements there are in such a position; what the measure of participation in the organisation management, and the headteacher's approach towards interpersonal relationship in the workplace is. TITLE: Headteacher's Feedback as a type of teacher's qualities advancemnent and support AUTHOR: Mgr. Markéta Breníková DEPARTMENT (INSTITUTE): Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education, School Management Center TUTOR: PhDr. Jan Voda, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: The thesis concerns present problematics of headteachers's feedback in a (czech) primary education system. The feedback is a component of comunication inside the school, a headteacher can use it as an instrument to rise the quality of the institution as well as lead the teachers towards the use of the feedback. The headteacher leads an effective team, creates beneficial atmosphere of raising and supported feedback. In the theoretical part, the thesis defines the feedback and related qualities in education, touching the managing methods. The reserach results show common unsysthematic use of the feedback, to a selected individuals instead of all employees in the primary educational system. In their challenging profession, the teachers need targeted support and advancement. However the headtechars do often not have competence necessary to provide systemic feedback. Competence profile of headteachers and their in-service training

The thesis deals with the issues of headteachers' vocational competences and their needs for in-service training. The issue is assessed with regard to school degree and a phase of headmaster's career. The thesis is based on the need to clearly define what knowledge, abilities and attitudes should headteachers have to be able to manage the school successfully. This is also one of the conditions for creating a meaningful career system in schooling and a basis for a systematic further vocational development of headteachers. The thesis suggests a generic top performance profile of headteachers of all school degrees and a structure of their in-service training which corresponds to necessary competence. As a result, this should lead to an improvement of vocational training of headteachers and subsequently to higher quality of schools they manage.
Reaching Quality in Education

A cornerstone of the following thesis is conviction, that education is a core activity of every school and its headteacher is a main character in reaching quality of education. Leadership and management must go hand in hand, but they are not the same. In his analysis author uses many foreign researches to introduce leadership in the school enviroment. A theory of management by competencies is an introduction for the following comparison of the headteachers education in selected countries. Author keeps on mind an education policy of the OECD. A quantitative research among 112 headteachers is a synthesis of the previous qualitative analysis. A statistic method of generalized linear models (GLM) was used for analysis of the data. Evalution and self-evalution function in the management process of the schools

The final thesis is focused on the analysis of the proces of evalution and self evalution in the school management proces. This proces is on of the important activities of the school. If done corectly ,it often leads to effective regulation of school activities developement, it creates quality schools and to the satisfaction of all parties. The theoretical part of the thesis expains the basic concepts of the evalution process. They are besed on knowledge of literature and its legal basic in the context of recent changes. The research includes a metaanalysis of works that deal with the process of evalution and self evalution. Based on these investigation, the researchers have created a general approach to the evalution of school headteachers for the school founders and the main principles of school headteachers have been named which leads to the improvement of their management activites. Coaching at primary schools

In this bachelor thesis, I find out how headteachers use coaching methods in communication with the middle management. I found out that no thesis had been written on this theme, therefore I was more motivated in my research. The theoretical part is focused on the explanation and clarification of basic terms headteacher, middle management, leadership, coaching), on the characteristics of the work of the headteachers and the middle management at primary schools and on the coaching methods. The theoretical part of this work has become a solid basis for the empirical part, which is ensued. The empirical part describes the used research methods and records the most important and essential information from the interviews, which are also evaluated. I chose the qualitative research method. This research has some specification, which I followed. I selected ten primary school headteachers, who had experience in coaching. The condition was their active using of coaching in practise together with their education in this sphere. They had to complete at least one course or training. Principals as educational leaders

The Thesis focuses on opinions and attitudes of Czech primary and secondary school's headteachers and brings information about their perception of needs in fields of administrative and pedagogic matters. For this purpose, it was carried out a survey among 1 908 respondents. Theoretical part of Thesis finds content of the concept "pedagogical management" on the normative basis which assumes that headteacher is - firs of all - pedagogical leader. In accordance with the theoretical basis, the survey findings and practical knowledge there are headteacher support scenarios in the last part of the Thesis. The scenarios provide inspiration for the considered district support body competence and call for solutions outreach the educational policy framework.
The management specifics of school with more grades in one class

This diploma thesis is aimed primarily at the analysis and specification of the management specifics at schools with more grades in one class. Due to the proportionally lower number of those type of schools in the school system, these specifics have a general tendency to be neglected or at least only peripherally mentioned in literature, even though its management undoubtly differs from the one applied at fully organized primary schools. The theoretical part specifies the term school with more grades in one class and pursue to describe its specific features and particularities. A description of the general school management follows, aiming at its most important spheres. In this thesis, school management is being described primarily from the point of view of a headteacher. The research part of this thesis is realized through the method of questionnaire survey aimed at fully-organized schools headteachers and at schools with more grades in one class headteachers in Středočeský region, in order to discover their management specifics.
